here is sth i recorded almost 2 years ago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN1J4h8oCDojazzy blues? bluesy jazz? i don't really care just try to play what i hear in my head.
and listening to early master definitely helps too. i am listening a lot ray charles and buddy guy and transcribing their singing on guitar! they are amazing!
my 2 cents hope it helps!
Hey HoneyOat, this is a really nice surprise! I always thought you were a heavy metal or hard rock guitarist. I guess I was wrong. The little tune you post is refreshing and cool. I wish I can learn to play jazz someday.
I have two questions:
1) What guitar did you use for this tune? It sounds nice.
2) Who is your main influence? You said "early masters", but I heard some modern feel in your playing.
Normally I don't like to write in English on this forum. But I guess an exception can be made for your case. I am glad that at least you can read Chinese well, I presume? If so, I will reply in Chinese next time. I would like to share our discussion with everyone on this forum.
Nice chatting with you. We shall continue...
Best,
Desert Surfer
haha yeah i love rock guitar but don't really play metal at all! i started of playing acoustic learning tommy emmanuell note for note! Anyway i guess whatever i picked up on the way they creep up every now and then in my playing. thanks for listening too!
for that little tune i used to have this cheap van halen guitar (yes i am also a van halen fan ha!) copy made by the chinese company called olp maybe you have heard of it. it was just DI into the computer and added a bit of reverb i remember.
my main influence? i guess it changes all the time... i had moved on from tommy emanuelle to Slash to Bz to SRV to BB king to Buddy Guy now i am really into Jeff Beck and Ray charles and Nat king cole. you can almost say i am going back to the root of the blues and there are just tones of amazing musicians! as to the modern feeling i think i just play whatever felt right to me. maybe it's modern mixed with old ha.
I once had goals of being able to play like steve vai or some guys etc but now i realise it's really not much point being a clone of somebody else. now i'd rather learn something from someone that i really like. i think to learn the attitude and spirit is far more important than just copy it down..( havin said that it's still a very good displine )
My cover of "cus we ended as lovers" by the great Jeff Beck

and our band cover of " Creep" by Radiohead ( i really like this arrangement )

they are both different to the original but i think they still kind of have the original feel to it.
anyway as for how to begin with jazz i would definitely recommend trying some blues stuff. and also the groove is another big thing but guess that's another time! maybe i will record something too
yeah i can read chinese perfectly but it's typing that i have problem with! yeah totally man i would love to share cus i am just such a fan to guitar and music!
nice chatting with you too dude! keep surfing!
